Hello all. I am the one person IT department at a logistics firm and management just told me we need a local presence number for the Caucasus region by the end of the month. My background is systems, not telecom, and the vocabulary alone is slowing me down. DID, SIP trunk, softphone, call forwarding, toll free, and I am not confident I know which of those I actually need. Can somebody lay out the minimum viable setup for a small team that just needs calls to land? Budget exists but is not generous, and I would rather not buy something we end up not using.

Minimum viable is simpler than the vocabulary makes it sound. You rent a DID, which is just a phone number in a specific country. You point it at either a softphone on your laptops or your existing phone system over SIP. Calls to that number then ring your team wherever they are. That is the whole thing. Toll free is a different product for inbound customer service and you probably do not need it yet. I set ours up through HotTelecom https://hottelecom.biz/virtual-number-of-azerbaijan.html , using a softphone on each machine, took an afternoon. Tip: write down who answers when and in what order, because forwarding rules are where small teams reliably confuse themselves.
