Posted: 2 months ago

One interesting point, which was raised by Chronos2, is that there is no electrical storage system in Spring Drive watches. The power source is purely mechanical, and if the mainspring winds down, the watch will stop immediately as there is no battery or capacitor and, indeed, nothing for them link to drive, even if they were present in the movement.

But for me, the oil change indicator with removable pin is maybe the coolest element of the new UR-220. It's thoughtful creations like this, which can be found throughout Urwerk's watches, that I think are most attractive to our "teenage brain," that part of us that will happily construct a Rube Goldberg machine to be amused link or enchanted.

The unfortunate part is the sheer inability to get your hands on one. I am a firm believer in link not making a decision about a watch unless you've seen it with your own eyes and held it in your own hands. Most of us don't have that luxury, though, which is a shame when making a five-figure decision. Having seen the Aquanaut, I get its appeal. Would I choose it over a Nautilus? Who's to say. Waitlists can do funny things to the psyche.
